Designed to cater to users who require a full-featured PDA phone that can deliver top-notch business as well as GPS functions, ASUS, producer of top-notch handhelds, has launched the new ASUS P750 PDA Phone. Winner of the 2007 Japan G-Mark Award, this revolutionary handheld wonder is able to provide high speed data transfers, complete business applications; as well as total connectivity to networks including: HSDPA, Bluetooth, WiFi, USB & GPS.

These business features include Ur Time – which allows the user to view the time of various cities on the Today screen. This useful feature ties in with the Meeting Time Planner, which helps eliminate the hassle of time converting and makes meeting scheduling more efficient than ever before. The Newstation provides up-to-date news and blog updates through RSS settings – keeping users in the know about current events or website updates, while the Auto Cleaner function keeps the device in tip-top condition and operating with the best performance by cleaning up unwanted data. Last but not least, the Business Card Recognition feature utilizes the 3 Mega-pixel Auto Focus camera to easily capture details of a business card without tediously keying in the data into their contacts.

The powerful built-in GPS antenna also combines seamlessly with the on-board navigation software and supports TMC (Traffic Message Service) – allowing users to obtain real-time traffic updates that can help them avoid traffic jams (Depends on local operator support). With the GPS Catcher feature, the P750 is able to update satellite data quickly – providing fast and accurate location fixes for navigating while on-the-go.

Sporting a brushed steel face and running the popular Windows Mobile 5 operating system, the 3G-capable ASUS P735 offers a number of worthy features in a distinct package. A 2 megapixel camera with auto focus, business card recognition, native Wi-Fi and memory expansion thanks to a mini-SD card slot are just some of what it has to offer. The Asus P735 has a design identical to the ASUS P535 but with a different set of specifications. The differences of ASUS P535 with ASUS P735 begin with the fact that the new device (P735) has support for 3G networks but does not have a built in GPS receiver. Next, the ASUS P735 will be equipped with the new Intel processor, Marvell XScale, running at 520 MHZ.

he ASUS P735 is a tri-band GSM 900/1800/1900, GPRS and 3G phone. It performs reasonably well for voice calls, and no issues with in-call quality arose during testing. Volume is adequate at its highest level, and the quality of the hands-free speakerphone is above average. There is a slight echo at full volume, and conversations held in areas with background noise aren’t always clear, but this is a common issue of smart phones. The P735 has basic phone features such as speed dialling, the ability make conference calls, call history, and a 1000 entry phone book, and ASUS has also includes a front-mounted VGA camera for video calling.

The P735 runs the familiar Windows Mobile 5 operating system, so it naturally has mobile versions of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Internet Explorer, Windows Media Player 10 and Pocket MSN. 3G and Wi-Fi capabilities make the P735 a solid email device, and the standard Windows Mobile messaging application supports push email from a Microsoft Exchange mail server, as well as standard POP3 and IMAP email accounts such as Hotmail, Gmail and Yahoo! Mail. Also standard is Bluetooth 2.0 and USB connectivity, although the latter is only the older and slower 1.1 interface, which is disappointing.

Performance is pretty snappy too, thanks to the 520MHz Intel XScale processor, which can speed up or slow down depending on the CPU load. The whole package is pretty small, and feels good in the hand – in fact, if you’re upgrading from a Pocket PC, you’ll feel right at home with the P535. he phone is perhaps one of the sturdiest touch-screen phones I have come across in the market. The overall appearance, although, is dull and bland, with brushed gray and black finish. For the amount it costs, the phone should’ve been a better looking one. To be honest, there isn’t much to the design. But, this perhaps, stems from the fact that people at Asus were rather busy tweaking the functionalities (we’ll talk about it later). At 109 x 59 x 19mm and 145g, it is a bit on the bulky side, but the features do make up for this.

As far as wireless options go, the P535 has most of them – it comes with WiFi and Bluetooth, but strangely only has support for plain-Jane GPRS. The phone has no 3G or EDGE, which is a real drag since a full-fledged PDA phone like this would really benefit from high-speed data connectivity. One area where the P535 really excelled was in capturing images with the 2-megapixel digital camera. For entertainment, the P535 comes with stereo input, which accepts the less-common 2.5mm stereo jack – this means that you’ll have to get an adaptor if you want to plug in a pair of earphones with a 3.5mm stereo jack.

At first glance, the P527 looks to be a dream with a long laundry list of features–Bluetooth, GPS, Wi-Fi, Windows Mobile 6–and a compact design. Asus also does a nice thing by throwing in a number of helpful utilities and applications for the mobile professional. However, it is simply underpowered and suffers from horribly slow performance. The frustration isn’t worth the extras, and it’s definitely not worth the $499 unlocked price (plus, we want 3G support, too).he ASUS package includes the P527 PDA phone with standard battery, AC world charger, mini-USB sync cable, wired stereo headset, protective case, P527 bonus CD and a printed getting started guide and full manual. The $599 package adds a 2GB microSD card with North America maps and navigation software pre-installed and the “ASUS Go” Navigation CD and manual.

Below the display, you’ll find a familiar navigation array of two soft keys, Talk and End buttons, a Start menu launcher, an OK button, and a joystick. The latter is fairly small and stiff, so we had a quite a number of mistaken presses. In addition to the alphanumeric keypad, Asus includes a handful of eight other shortcut buttons for one-click access to applications, such as GPS, Bluetooth, Messages, and the voice recorder. We appreciate these keys since Windows Mobile devices aren’t exactly the easiest to operate, requiring a lot of menu digging and extra steps.

As we mentioned earlier, the Asus P527 is a well-stocked smartphone. It runs Windows Mobile 6 Professional Edition, which includes the full Office Mobile Suite for document management, Windows Live integration, and Microsoft Direct Push Technology for real-time e-mail delivery and automatic synchronization with your Outlook calendar, tasks, and contacts via Exchange Server. Asus also throws in a number of other utilities, including a business card reader, a meeting planner, an RSS reader, a ZIP manager, and a backup application.

If you have taken a look at the Asus A626 and wished it came with cellphone functionality, Asus has already granted that wish by unleashing the P526 smartphone. Running on the latest Windows Mobile 6.0 operating system, users are given the chance to stay abreast with current happenings thanks to the versatility and power the platform offers. Additional features include quad-band EDGE for speedy audio/video streaming, a camera (megapixel count is unknown but I’m looking at 1.3 being the bare minimum), GPS navigation capabilities for frequent travelers, as well as Outlook synchronization. There is no word on pricing details at the moment, so keep an eye out.

Along the right hand edge, alongside a memory expansion slot for microSD cards and the trigger button for the two megapixel digital camera, is a dedicated lock switch. It has long been a pet hate of mine with Windows Mobile that in order to lock and unlock the keys and touchscreen on most devices, you have to prod a couple of tiny on-screen buttons. It’s not my idea of sensible user interface design. With the P526, however, that’s a thing of the past. Just flick the switch and it’s locked; flick it again and it’s unlocked. I wish more phones would do something similar.

The 2 megapixel camera used in the P526 is neither the best nor the worst. It can shoot pictures in the JPEG format under several resolutions, starting with 1600×1200 and going down to 1280×960, 640×480, 320×240, 160×120 and 80×60. The camera includes several settings which can be modified to improve the picture quality such as: a night mode for low-light environments, a sports mode used to capture moving subjects, a maximum of 2.5x digital zoom available only in lower resolution modes, a 5/10 seconds timer, a burst mode which can capture 4/9 frames in succession and a few effects including Black&White, Negative, Sepia and Solarize. Note that all these options can be changed through a menu which appears on the lower side of the display and which can be conveniently accessed using the fingers. There are also some more or less “hidden” options that are not so easily reachable available under the “advanced” tab, which upon activation switches the camera software display to a Windows Mobile-style view that allows the changing of the White Balance to Tungsten, Halogenic, Fluorescent, Incandescence, Sunny and Cloudy; the adjustment of the Brightness, Sharpness and Contrast and the setting of the metering mode to Normal, Center or Background.
