Asus M930 is positioned as the Nokia E90 killer. And it does a good job of it. The exterior has a traditional QVGA display and numeric keypad. There’s a 2 megapixel autofocus cam around back, and the usual microSD expansion, WiFi, and Bluetooth. However it runs Windows Mobile 6 Standard — not Professional — so there is no hope of touching the display with a stylus. At 113 x 54 x 18.7mm and 158g make it wider, taller, thicker and heavier than most comparable phones. There is of course a reason for the M930’s extra bulk - a keyboard. But instead of a sliding to open, the M930 sports a hinged mechanism.
The full qwerty keyboard underneath is impressively spacious and even a dedicated number key row running along the top. Above it, set into the underside of the lid is an extra screen, slightly larger than the one on the front at 2.6in, and a slightly higher resolution of 400 x 240. It looks fantastic and in use it works just as well. The keys are responsive and the fact that the edge of the screen doesn’t encroach on the top of the keyboard means it feels far less cramped in use.The M930 runs Windows Mobile 6.0 Standard, which means that neither inner nor outer screen is touch-sensitive. But on a final positive note, the battery life proved to be very good.
With 256MB of ROM, 64MB and a microSD card the memory quota is OK, and the M930 is a 3G device with HSDPA. Bluetooth and Wi-Fi are both built in. There is a camera for making two-way video calls but it is inside the clamshell, which could prove rather inconvenient at times. There is a second camera with 2-megapixel capability on the back of the casing.

The Asus P505 was due for release at the tail end of 2004 but has been held over the 2005 for its eventual launch, similar in function to other windows smartphone devices the P505 is driven by the latest Windows mobile operating system but crammed into a much smaller footprint than the O2 XDA or IMate Jam. Based around a 416Mhz Intel processor the tri band mobile phone looks a bit like a walkie talkie and certainly more like a communications device than the more subtle PDA / GPRS phones. Measuring 108 x 60 x22.5mm its a large mobile phone but a fairly modest smartphone and the 170 gram device still managed to pack in a 2.8 inch TFT screen part hidden by a P900 style flap.
The main method of navigation is using the rather nifty side mounted joystick, this 5 way tool sits on the upper left hand edge of the device where some devices have a jog wheel, it takes a bit of getting used to but its easily driven with a thumb or finger and allows for quick action. Below the 5 way pad are two buttons, one for making voice notes and the second for capturing images via the rather unremarkable 1.3 mega pixel camera, its worth noting that the cameras performance in low light is not good and that you shouldn’t really be buying the P505 if what you are after is top notch snaps.Good points are the inclusion of a standard 2.5mm audio jack allowing use with a wide range of cabled headsets rather than some horrible proprietary plug system and there is support for Bluetooth allowing wireless headsets to be used plus it can also act as a data connection.
The battery while being slim is only a 100mAh unit meaning a talk time of around 4 hours and standby of a couple of days, use the PDA fully and you could drain the battery in about 15 hours, in truth a combination is far more likely and with average mobile use plus a bit of PDA you’d need to be topping up each day. There is an extended 3000 mAh battery but it adds significant weight to the device.Overall we liked the Asus P505 its a smartphone with almost all the features we want, the main omission is WiFi, it still amazes us that a serious smartphone can be produced without at least 802.11b.

Panasonic RP-HTX7 15 Mar 2010
Tightness is not a problem with these phones because of the vinyl-wrapped metal headband. This is great because it’s impossible to overextend them–you just bend them back into shape with no trouble. The Sheckler Signature model of these phones is the least expensive by at least 20 dollars when I bought it (maybe his sponsorship [...]
Sony DR-BT30Q 15 Mar 2010
A great idea or just another pointless use of wireless technology? I?ve spent a few months using the Sony DR-BT30Q stereo Bluetooth headphones, and thought it might be useful for some people for me to post my thoughts on this desirable gadget and my views on the technology behind it.
A2DP, more commonly known as Bluetooth [...]
Sanyo Xacti VPC-CA6 15 Mar 2010
The VPC-CA6 is a an extremely small SD-card based video and still camera; our product review sample came in a box that proclaimed it was the “blue” variant (with a “red” and “silver” variant also available), but that’s a strange definer of the camera, as it’s actually only the bezel around the foldout LCD that [...]
Hitachi DZ-HS301 14 Mar 2010
The Hitachi DZ-H303 already was announced in Japan a month ago. It looks like Hitachi is bringing the DZ-HS301 also to Europe soon and eventually to the United States. The Hitachi DZ-HS301 features a 15x optical zoom, 1MP still photos and a 2.7 widescreen LCD. The Hitachi DZ-HS303 sports a better CCD sensor and takes [...]
Canon ZR700 14 Mar 2010
The Canon ZR700 tops off the ZR series this year, which has undergone serious cosmetic changes, including a new joystick control. How does the ZR700 hope to distinguish itself? The differences from next step-down, the ZR600, are small but crucial, including the analog inputs. Combine this with a 30x optical zoom and solid low light [...]
