Asus M530w

Dimensions: 117 x 65 x 13.8 mm
Weight: 135g
Display: 320 x 240 resolution, 2.5 inches, TFT, 65K colors

Price Range: $395.00 to $799.00

The ASUS M530w has the QWERTY keyboard located below the 2.4 inch screen. Between the display and the QWERTY keyboard the ASUS M530w has in a clear and distinct layout the answer and end call keys, the Windows Mobile keys and a five-way select/action key in the middle. The keys are large enough which makes it easy to use. On the QWERTY keyboard the buttons are laid out in such a way that there is enough space between them (to avoid pressing two buttons at the same time) and the number pad is clearly distinguished. There is also a thumbwheel for quick scrolling on the left of the device. The thumbwheel is very useful on Smartphone’s and Pocket PCs since it can allow you to use your phone using only one hand. The thumbwheel on the ASUS M530w unlike some other devices is located on the left hand side.

For business users these cosmetic concerns may seem extravagant. After all, we are talking about Windows Mobile whose functionality outweighs its yawn-worthy aesthetic. There’s support for all popular e-mail protocols, Windows Live messaging and Internet Explorer, and the M530w is able to view MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint documents, as well as PDFs, but not edit them.

Other features on the Asus M530w are a 2-megapixel camera with LED flashlight, Wi-Fi (802.11b/g) and Bluetooth connectivity. The device is powered by a 416MHz processor with 256MB of built-in flash memory and 64MB SDRAM.

Panasonic RP-HTX7

Tightness is not a problem with these phones because of the vinyl-wrapped metal headband. This is great because it’s impossible to overextend them–you just bend them back into shape with no trouble.  The Sheckler Signature model of these phones is the least expensive by at least 20 dollars when I bought it (maybe his sponsorship [...]

Sony DR-BT30Q
15 Mar 2010

A great idea or just another pointless use of wireless technology? I?ve spent a few months using the Sony DR-BT30Q stereo Bluetooth headphones, and thought it might be useful for some people for me to post my thoughts on this desirable gadget and my views on the technology behind it. A2DP, more commonly known as Bluetooth [...]

Sanyo Xacti VPC-CA6
15 Mar 2010

The VPC-CA6 is a an extremely small SD-card based video and still camera; our product review sample came in a box that proclaimed it was the “blue” variant (with a “red” and “silver” variant also available), but that’s a strange definer of the camera, as it’s actually only the bezel around the foldout LCD that [...]

Hitachi DZ-HS301
14 Mar 2010

The Hitachi DZ-H303 already was announced in Japan a month ago. It looks like Hitachi is bringing the DZ-HS301 also to Europe soon and eventually to the United States. The Hitachi DZ-HS301 features a 15x optical zoom, 1MP still photos and a 2.7 widescreen LCD. The Hitachi DZ-HS303 sports a better CCD sensor and takes [...]

Canon ZR700
14 Mar 2010

The Canon ZR700 tops off the ZR series this year, which has undergone serious cosmetic changes, including a new joystick control. How does the ZR700 hope to distinguish itself? The differences from next step-down, the ZR600, are small but crucial, including the analog inputs. Combine this with a 30x optical zoom and solid low light [...]
